Bold colors, geometric patterns and botanical profiles emanate from Erik Abel's "Ocean-Inspired" artwork. Influenced by his love of the ocean, Abel's art articulates the spirit of the water and the awe of nature. His roots as a surfer intermingle with his experiences in the South Pacific and Central America, imparting an organic, tribal style into his subjects and compositions.
Abel's imagery first takes shape within the pages of his sketchbooks; dozens of notebooks filled with his unique interpretation of the colors and details of nature. Imagination, colored pencil, and an intense desire to express the beauty of the world take shape in an array of drawings and compositional studies. From this amazing trove of sketches, Abel refines his vision and creates the final paintings with layers of acrylic paint, loose pencil strokes and colorful markers. It is not unusual for Abel to work late in the night deftly coaxing his technique into the incredible paintings appreciated by collectors around the globe.
Living for years near the beach in Ventura, CA, and now in Oregon, Abel has learned to capture his favorite elements of life in his artwork. As the first Artist Ambassador for Save the Waves Coalition and by partnering with organizations such as Surfrider, Surf for Life, Project Woo, and others, Abel has found a way to use his talents to support environmental and humanitarian causes he believes in.
Though Abel's incredible talents have garnered him high-profile design work for companies such as Billabong, Blue Moon Brewing Co., Patagonia, Reef Hawaiian Pro events and more, today Erik Abel is focusing on his fine art. His original paintings and limited editions are showcased in art galleries from Hawaii to the east coast: offering everyone an opportunity to bring home a great day at the beach!
