There is a wolf in each pack that initiates play among the other members of the pack. By doing so, stress among the various members of the pack is greatly reduced and it's "the play wolf" that introduces recreation after a member is lost or some other tragedy occurs. Often, it is the wolf who is lowest in the pack’s hierarchical structure that inherits this role.
