Artist June Carey revisits the setting of her first Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Limited Edition, Mission Courtyard. "I researched Padre's Vineyard for five years," June explains. "What excites me as an artist is to fall in love with a subject with a history. Through my collection of black and white photos and books on architectural history, I am able to travel back through time, gathering my favorite elements as I create my perfect composition. This is a view of Carmel's San Carlos Mission as it looked during its renaissance of the early 1900s. The missions were self sufficient, supporting not only themselves, but their many converts. They grew all their own food, livestock, and, of course, grapes for wine, continuing the art of winemaking which arrived with the Spanish Padres in the 1700s. In the background is the beautiful Pacific Ocean, which would have been visible in the 1900s but is now obscured by all the huge eucalyptus, Monterey pines and buildings."
