An artistic departure for Bonnie, The Gold Thread reveals her spiritual views on nature. As Bonnie puts it, "I believe that in all living things there is a common core of understanding—a precious ‘thread’ that bonds us all together. As adults, we sometimes deny the existence of that understanding, falling prey to our own aggressions (represented here by the wolf), secrecy (the fox) or fear (the deer). Children, on the other hand, feel the strong tug of the thread at their hearts and respond with openness and trust to the world around them." As always, we find Bonnie’s depiction of wildlife exquisite and combined with her Maxfield Parish-inspired palette, the image takes on a lyric quality.
